Today I remembered that a while ago I bought some googly eyes. I showed them to Kelsey and the first thing she did was to open her eyes really big and gave me a smile.
I draw the 'templates' and helped her adding the eyes...

She added the final touches and made it hers.

When we finished the first one she said: "How about tio Tony, tia Palola..." and here we have them...

cuando solo eramos Felipe y yo, el siempre me cantaba Las Mananitas la noche anterior o temprano en la manana de mi cumple. Luego se hizo tradicion y yo tambien lo hacia.
Ahora que tenemos a nuestras bebes lo seguimos haciendo y cantamos a quien le toque. Pero hoy muy feliz ya que Salmita me acompano a cantarle a papi las mananitas. Mi nina orgullosamente cantaba la cancion que habia aprendido el verano pasado. Hooray!

Ya para la noche no podia faltar el cantarle a papi Happy Birthday acompanado por un rico cake que le preparamos.

aqui ellas emocionadas por su papi... pero sobre todo porque habia cake que comer... no me dejaban tranquila ni un momento... apenas vieron que tenia los ingredientes en la cocina me rondaban a cada rato para ver si ya lo iba a preparar... luego cuando les llegaba el olor del cake horneando venian a preguntar si ya estaba listo...

No perdieron ni un momento despues de cantarle a papi y a buscar tenedores para empezar a comer.

Bartolo... nunca olvides lo mucho que te amamos y lo importante que eres para nosotras. Feliz 40 y que Dios te colme de mucha salud.

As predicted we did not have school today. Not too much fun in the morning since we had an icestorm... lots of ice to shovel.
Anyway... we have been working on this poster for the past two days.
She is the Student of the Month... which she is so proud about.
Also, she brought a Certificate of outstanding achievement for the month... Hooray for Salma...

Primero pensamos que hoy habria clases pero entrando con hora y media de retrazo.
Oh... pero a las cinco de la manana cuando veo mi telefono y tenia un mensaje que decia... "classes canceladas por hoy debido al mal clima" lo primero que hice fue apagar mi despertador y seguir durmiendo con una sonrisa en la cara.

Lo bueno de trabajar en el distrito escolar es que casi siempre cuando Salma (y muy pronto Kelsey) tiene libre... yo tambien!

Aqui estamos recien saliendo a la nieve. No nos dimos cuenta que papi estaba con la maquina de limpiar nieve y nos hizo esta maldad.

colorful pancakes for my girls

Felipe and I are pretty sure they liked it. We could see it on their little faces. I had fun making them. I was a bit nervous at first because I am no artist, but they came up fine. I even made a happy sun for Felipe.

The girls did not know what I was doing. I wanted to surprise them. See it...

I had a good time making them because I always love to see my babies' faces when I surprise them with something new.

Decir que se divirtieron mucho es quedarme corta. Se divirtieron un monton! Mejor dicho nos divertimos un monton. Fue la primera vez que ellas hacian algo asi. Lo bueno que no estuvo tan ventoso y por eso no tan frio.

Salma aprendio rapido. Ya de una vez queria ir a la bajada de los ninos mas grandes. Al final hasta se bajaba con estilo.

Pensabamos que Kelsey no le haria mucho caso a los 'sleds' pero todo lo contrario, siempre preguntaba que si ya era su turno. Claro que todo estaba bien hasta que la nieve tocaba su piel.

Lo bueno de una tarde de mucho ejercicio? se volaron el almuerzo... regresaron con mucha hambre.

Also, in another note totally unrelated to snow. When Felipe and I went to sleep last night we found a little and beautiful surprise in our bed. Guess what it was?... a five year-old that did not want to sleep in her bed. Oh boy she scared me. I entered the room without turning the lights on and when I when to my side of the bed there she was. I had the chance to give her lots lots of kisses. Unlike other times, she did not spend the night kicking or sleeping diagonally.

Tonight I made the girls pancakes for dinner. Kelsey was thrilled with the happy face. It is hard to see but the pancakes are actually pink!

They spent the day together. Salma did not have school today (Three-Kings' day) and they stayed with their pijamas all day long. How nice is that?

Kelsey surprised me the other day. She started to tell me the numbers in the calculator. I could not believe it... I was waiting for her to be a little older to teach her, but she does know it already... How? well, she is always with Salma and I when we do homework. I guess you think they are not listening or paying attention but they are. Just like she knows most of her alphabet letters.

yes.. we woke up to see a lot of snow today... and I mean a lot. I believe 26 inches in our area. Enough snow to cancel appointments, work and anything that involved going out (school is out so we have a week off :) )
Here is how our day went...

Salma was so excited to go out she could not stop asking for it.

Today was the day to eat some comfort food so we made some pasta figioli soup for lunch and later the girls 'made' chocolate cake.

Lately I am trying to let them do a bit more when they help me in the kitchen. So 'go ahead you can crack the eggs for the cake' but the egg when all over her shirt and face. Good thing she was good sports and laugh about it.

hummmm... best part of cake making.

Kelsey has been saying "I am big kid now" so tonight I gave her a 'big girl tea cup'

She enjoyed her cake... Indeed it was very spongy and we got to put some 'cajeta' on it and it tasted even better.

She offered to help with Saturday's breakfast (Swedish pancakes). It is one of our favorites. Thanks IHOP for the idea. Well after helping (or I eating would say) cleaning the strawberries and blueberries. She wanted to make her sister's pancakes. So cute and thoughtful of her.

Papi siempre nos canta las mananitas para nuestros cumpleanos. Y en este libro la cancion era parte de la historia. Estaba escrita en Espanol. mi nina lo pudo leer y nos sorprendio leyendolo y cantandolo.

Tratamos que siempre haya algo dulce en casa. Este invierno pan dulce Mexicano es casi siempre parte de nuestro cafecito de la noche.

We (Salma and I) are having a four-day weekend (she is actually having a five-day). So we both made a list of the things we wanted to do. One of them was to bake something together.

Since they wanted to eat volobanes, we made some. Daddy was not too happy about it because they did not have pickled jalapenos. They really helped me this time. I was supervising and they were actually rolling the dough and filling in the pastry.

This little baby (named Kelsey) decided to put some flour to help her roll the dough. You cannot see it but the dough is actually underneath ALL that flour. She had fun with it because later she decided to throw it in the air.

Usualmente no les compramos cosas/ropa igual para las dos. Pero esta vez no me pude resistir y les compramos estas pijamas tan lindas. Kelsey siempre esta buscando una escusa para ponerse el Tutu con cualquier ropa.

Funny thing to remember: Yesterday was election day. Salma's class also wanted to participate in this important event. They had to vote for President. Who were the candidates? Well, Sponge Bob and Dora the Explorer.

Sponge Bob was the winner by 18 votes and Dora only got 6 votes. It was so nice to hear her telling me all about it.

Halloween 2010

Since this time of the year is a bit cold, we decided to go trick-or-treating indoors. So we went to the mall for a day of fun. Hum! that meant having Cinnabon for breakfast. We ate with the abuelitos.

As you can see Kelsey was a bunny and Salma was dressed as Olivia the Pig.

My little baby was not feeling well that day, but that did not stop her for enjoying Halloween. There were times when she just wanted me to have her in my arms so she could rest.

Here there are celebrating that they are getting candy.

by the end of the day she was tired and ready to nap. Later, we waited for the trick-or-treaters to knock our door. As always we ate some candy and gave away the rest.

we learned a little bit about patterns during the Summer. Right now, she is working on it in Kindergarten. Well, sometimes they can get a big tricky. So, we practiced and had fun in the process. How to:
* We had some shapes and made lots of copy to color...

We used the 'ABC' method... that means each shape/color is given a letter and then make up your pattern... let's say circle-circle-square will be AAB and so on...

We tried to make it difficult each time. She enjoyed it because she could figure out the answer. Later, Salma even made some patterns for her Daddy to solve.

these days we are spending our days reading, doing homework and extras, creating class projects, going to kids' workshops, getting ready for fall-winter, and recently... knitting and crocheting.

abuelita Z made this hat for baby K. It looks good on her (everything looks good on this baby)

the weather is changing. no more hot sunny days to go out and play. these are the days to stay warm, grab a sweater and in the evening have some tea/coffe with cookies or Mexican bread.

as we know 'big sister' is going to Kindergarten. She sure misses her sister. The first days Kelsey was very upset that Salma was going to school and she was staying home. She did not even want to kiss Sama bye before school.
So to keep her busy until Little S comes home we do some crafts around the house. This week we made a 'flower center piece' with foam stickers, craft sticks and playdough. Kelsey kept blowing to the flowers thinking it was a birthday cake with candles.

We also made a fun turkey character. This was a good idea because she got a chance to use her little fingers. And just like Salma, she gets so serious when she is doing something.

here is the final product. These things keep her busy and entertaint, and why not... also they are lots of practice to get ready for pre-k!

I know Pre-K is a year away but it is never too early to start, right?

Today, I read to little Kelsey one of the Franklin's book. She still is in between paying attention and playing while I am reading (but never give up) Sometimes when I finished reading to her she takes the book and starts reading it to me (so nice).
Later, before going to bed, I read to Salma one of Dr. Seuss Book . It was very funny. We tried to see who could read (so good for her reading practice) a complete page without making a mistake (because it was a tongue twister) at the end I finished reading the book myself but reading it in a 'funny way' so I could make her laugh. It is nice to see how much 15 minutes can make.

Now that we are talking about reading, I was reading the latest Scholastic Magazine and I found out that one of our favorite TV shows WordWorld has won two awards. This program is very helpful for the little ones who are learning their letters and beginning spelling. It helped Salma a lot. I remember at the beginning she used to repeat after them, but later she was spelling the words they were working on. So are we starting to do it with Kelsey.

Whenever I said the word 'park' they get very excited and start jumping. Well, this day I just wrote it down in our Day Schedule:: 'play and picnic at the park'
We packed our picnic lunch and headed to the park. We could not complaint. The weather was nice. A little bit of breeze. Just perfect.

Kelsey was exploring the playground. She wanted to try everything. Even the big slide. Always having her big sister next to her.

"Mommy look at me!"

then we found a nice spot in the park where we could eat. Under a tree. Just perfect. Oh boy where they hungry.

You would think we were full. Well, one hour later we went to pick up Daddy so he could eat lunch and we ate again.

Kelsey eats well, but sometimes she prefers to live on snacks. When it is mealtime she sometimes eats a tiny bit and does not want anything else. Later, she ends up asking for a snack. I guess this time she finished everything because it looked like a snack rather than lunch.

yes, one more time to go to the beach. yesterday was really nice and we decided to make a trip to the beach. Salma did not waste any moment and jumped in the water. Kelsey spent her time playing with the sand, but she does not like the water that much because it is a bit cold for her (and for Mommy)

Labor Day

a little late but here are the pictures from Labor Day weekend. Daddy helped the girls make a homemade kite. it was small but worked. we just wanted to try it out and see how it went. not bad...

later on, we went to a new park for us. it was really nice. no many people and the playground was for little ones. so no problem about big kids being rude to the little ones.

they had a blast. Salma made a friend and played with her until we headed back home.

De regreso a la escuela

hoy mi 'bebe' regreso a la escuela. hoy entro a Kindergarten. a pesar de que estaba nerviosa y no queria ir porque pensaba que no seria como Pre-K... pero todo estuvo bien.
Se despidio tranquila como siempre y era yo la que no queria irme a casa y dejarla sola.

no sabia que esperar cuando la fuera a recoger en la tarde a la escuela. pero cuando llegue me dijo "Mama Kindergarten es divertido... es mas divertido que Pre-K. Quiero regresar manana" eso fue todo lo que queria escuchar............

casi siempre le tengo que sacar con 'cucharadas' todo cuando le pregunto "como estuvo tu dia? que hiciste hoy" pero esta vez no... no paraba de hablar y contarme lo bien que le fue. contenta porque estuvo en la lista de los ninos que se portaron bien y les dieron unas sortijas de 'encompas'

la escuela esta cerca a la casa... asi que caminamos y mientras lo haciamos ella me seguia contando lo bien que le fue y que habia hecho una amiguita.

esta es mi foto favorita de hoy... al verla sonrio mucho y me alegro al saber que mi nina tuvo un buen dia...

y por lo que veo comio todo su almuerzo pero al ver la blusa me dijo que tuvo un poco de dificultad para abrir el sobre de ketchup...

No crean que uno le pone todos esos accesorios... no ella sola pide ponerse todo lo que ve a la mano. hay veces que hasta le pide prestado a la abuelita sus collares, pulseras y sortijas.

solo le pedi tomarle una foto... pero estaba de buen humor para posar para mama y aproveche la ocasion. Fue muy linda y las fotos salieron bellas como ella. Al final me dijo "okey mommy no mas fotos"

el ultimo dia de sprinkler de este verano 2010. pues si fue asi... Salmita lo disfruto mucho... ayer estuvo caliente y que mas razon para poner el esprinkler por un rato. Se divirtio muchisimo.

pasado manana empieza la escuela.

por el otro lado, mi pequena K no quizo ni mojarse... el sprinkler la espantaba un poco.

Tea Party Day

Hoy fue un dia muy especial. hoy mis ninas tuvieron su tan esperado 'tea party'. lo esperaron con muchas ganas. contaban los dias para hoy. lo primero que dijeron las dos al despertar hoy fue 'TEA PARTY DAY!'

Todo salio muy bonito. la mesa estaba linda y rosada por supuesto para compenetrar con las lindas princesitas que disfrutarian esta fiestita.

Me gusto ver como las ninas se servian el te en esas tazitas y platitos a su medida. Mi Kelsey feliz de estar ahi. Vanessa comiendo y disfrutando mucho del rico banquete.

asi queria que celebraramos y despidieramos el verano. nuestro ultimo fin de semana antes que empieze la escuela mi Salma. Todo salio muy bello. un momento en casa... en familia... entre hermanitas...

al final hasta los abuelito las acompanaron a tomar el te.

Como siempre se divirtieron a monton. estaba lloviendo bastante pero eso no impidio que no estuvieran gritando, corriendo, saltando y sobre todo pasandola bien.

cuando se empezaban a aburrir por no poder salir a la yarda (gracias a la lluvia) empezamos hora de arte y por lo visto les gusto mucho a los 9 nietos. ninguno se resistio de jugar con la brocha y pinturas.

disfrutando de nuestros ultimos dias de vacaciones. Aunque por mi pie no he podido salir (solo para citas con doctores) hemos estado muy ocupados. Haciendo todas las manualidades que podamos y se nos venga a la mente. Algunas veces muy contentos de tener mas de dos pequenas ninas en la mesa.

esta vez hicimos libros de acordiones.

hacer volar la imaginacion y creatividad.

haciendo caras por estar cansada de estar posando para fotos.

otras veces muy contentas y monas de que le tomen fotos.

al igual que la hermanita mayor.

hemos estado ayudando a 'cocinar' y preparar cosas ricas y sabrosas con abuelita Z y mami.

hemos ido a proyectos y paseos nuevos. Como en Home Depot... wow! Little Miss S estuvo muy contenta de esta sorpresita. no dejo que papi tomara fotos mientras hacia su proyecto. estaba anciosa de martillar su 'school bus pencil dispenser'

hemos estado celebrando que ya no USAMOS DIAPERS!!!!!!!! y por eso a comprar calzoncitos de Dora.

Hemos estado leyendo y MUCHO! Ya que por eso fuimos a la fiesta que la biblioteca le ofrecio a los ninos del 'reading club' (el show de mimo fue un exito. a Salmia le encanto)

tambien hemos ido a Lowe's por mas workshops.

hemos ayudado a mami a hacer salsa verde (aunque mami dice que no gracias)

hemos estado haciendo muchas manualidades, arte y de todo un poco.

Cada dia creamos un chart/horario y ellas saben que despues de 'quiet time' siempre hay 'craft/activity time'

hemos estado haciendo mucha 'tarea' para estar preparados para lo que venga.

hemos tenido 'breakfast tea party'

hemos jugado haciendo 'silly faces' y mas...

hemos o estamos aprendiendo a tejer crochet... aqui Salmita con una vincha que le hizo mami.

asi que queremos aprovechar estos dias que quedan lo mas que podamos. para despues esperar tranquilos el frio y la nieve.

Ayer me operaron del pie. tengo que estar en reposo por unos dias. mis bebes preciosas estan muy atentas y siempre me estan ayudando a ponerme los zapatos, a caminar o para algo que necesite. Kelsey siempre me esta mirando el 'bubu' y me pregunta "duele tu bubu?"

Hoy vinieron los Chuitos a visitar. Nicole tenia dias que queria hacer "Craft Time" con nosotras ya que lo habia visto en nuestro horario/chart diario. Pues hicimos libros de acordion. Nos quedaron muy bonitos. Mi mama nos tomo unas fotos. cuando me las envie las pongo para que vean. Estamos planeando una pequena fiesta de te (tea party) para las ninas de la familia. lo quiero hacer antes que empiece la escuela.

Domingo empezo tranquilo y perezoso ya que bailamos mucho en la boda del Tio Mayto y Jessyka la noche anterior. Nos divertimos un monton.
En casa preparando algo para el lunch y haciendoles manicure a las bebes. Los primos llegaron despues y a jugar y ver peliculas que la abuelita trajo.

jugando 'MUNDOS' con los primos. Algo que mis ninas nunca habian jugado y les encanto. Kelsey no paraba de saltar.

Abuelita Maria, esta foto de arriba es con mucho carino para ti. Salmita quizo que se la tomaran asi, y dijo que era para su Abuelita Maria.

probando nuevas recetas, como en este caso 'rice cakes'. no perdimos tiempo y a probar. Hummm! muy rico, no duro ni mas de un dia.

desde que tomo clases de natacion este Febrero no le he insistido a sambuirse en el agua. cuando era bien pequena (8 meses para ser exactos) empezo a hacerlo pero por alguna razon le entro miedo y ni se acuerda que ya lo ha hecho antes. Se ponia muy nerviosa y bueno, mejor lo dejamos ahi para que no tenga miedo al agua. Pero este verano ella sola empezo ha hacerlo. cada vez entraba mas y mas. y es una emocion grande cuando lo hace. a big achievement for my little girl.

estaban encantadas con este juego de te. desde que se despertaron estaban "mami, I want to have a tea party" Kelsey estuvo con su corona de princesa toda la manana. Decia que tenia que ser una princesa para estar en el 'tea party'. Asi que las dos decidieron ponerse vestidos (Kelsey se molesto mucho ya que a ella le puse una falda que le quedaba linda) para esta ocasion.

Papi llego cuando estaban jugando y le invitaron a tomar una taza de te.

le gusta ayudar en la cocina. y cuando sabe que va hacer algo como esto se pone muy contenta. como dije anteriormente abuelita Z nos acompano y ella le ayudo.

las empanadas estuvieron hechas con Maseca! muy ricas y no tan dificil de preparar.

paseo con papi

teniamos planeado ir al parque tempranito en la manana. Desayunar ahi (algo que nos gusta mucho a las tres) al fresco. Lo mas lindo de nuestro paseo? que papi nos acompano. usualmente el duerme un poquito mas los sabados, pero se animo a ir con nosotras y la pasamos muy bien con el.

y saben que? nuestro carro era el unico en el estacionamiento. eso quiere decir que teniamos todo el playground para nosotros (al menos por un buen rato)

aqui mi baby K se animo a bajarse desde la resbaladora mas grande. wow! ni lo penso dos veces. la nerviosa era su mami.

descubriendo libros nuevos (sobre todo de Olivia... una de nuestras favoritas)

oh, y aprovechando para hacer un poco de 'homework' como le llamamos aqui en casa.

hoy? las sorprendi con este rico desayuno. a ellas les encanto.

estaba muy humedo el clima para hacer otra cosa. ya en la tarde entraron un rato a la piscinita y a cada rato le echaban agua a la abuelita.

Cuando la temperatura esta asi de caliente solo queda una cosa por hacer...

y eso es pasar el dia bien refrescados.
Wow! si que hizo (y todavia hace) calor el dia de hoy. Mis bebes no perdieron tiempo. luego luego despues del desayuno empezaron a jugar con el agua.

Mi Kelsey no se decidia a jugar con el 'sprinkler' y enseguida se fue para su piscinita.
en cambio Salmita si se divirtio un rato con eso. Al principio corria para no mojarse pero luego solo era risas cada vez que tocaba el agua.

Estaba tan caliente que luego de una hora de ellas estar ahi, yo entre a hacerles compania. estuvimos las 3 jugando toda la manana. la pasamos muy bonito.

Un 'snack' rico que Kelsey no perdio tiempo en saborear.

y asi otro dia mas de estas vacaciones de verano.

4th of July weekend

se divirtieron mucho. el clima ... bueno para estar en el agua y pasarla bien.

ayer fuimos a ver los 'fireworks' mi Kelsey estaba bien espantada al principio. ella sentada en mis piernas y lo unico qe hacia era taparse la carita (pero por un hoyito no dejaba de ver las luces de colores) lo que la espantaba eran los cuetes que estaban muy fuerte. pero ya al final hasta gritaba "uno mas!!"

Salmita desde temprano en la tarde no dejaba de preguntar a que hora ibamos. A ella le encanto y estaba contenta que su hermanita fuera por primera vez.

Hoy Salmita fue a una clase de cocina. prepararon empanadas. me gusto mucho que la abuelita Zoyla fue con nosotras. las dos compartieron un rato diferente juntas ya que abuela fue la que ayudo a Salmita.

Tuvieron un 'playdate' con las primitas. mi mama me dijo que hubo mucho drama el dia de hoy. se divirtieron mucho y la pasaron bien. cuando regrese del trabajo todavia estaban en la piscinita que la abuelita les habia instalado. Luego comieron sandia, corrieron a monton, paletas de hielo y colorearon en el piso.

Esta foto es la que llamo mucho mi atencion. esta linda. gracias mami.

Manana es cumple de la abuelita. nos reuniremos en uno de sus lugares favoritos.

Ya mi Salmita esta fuera de la escuela. Contenta porque puede estar todo el dia con su hermanita. Ahora solo hay que ver que no se despierten tan temprano.

Yo salgo este proximo miercoles. Con tantos dias libres que tuvimos por las inundaciones de marzo, nos toco ser los unicos que estaremos en la escuela hasta el fin de mes.
